Friday 22nd April, 6:00pm, 2016 - Ian Hanger Recital Hall, QLD Conservatorium
Ludwig van Beethoven – Piano Trio in E flat major, op.1 no.1
Vincent Plush - Kakadu Tango (world premiere performance)
Nigel Westlake – Piano Trio (2003)
Lyrebird Trio are thrilled to return to the Queensland Conservatorium in 2016 as Ensemble-in-Residence.
Composed in 1793 when Beethoven was only 23, the Piano Trio in E-flat was the work Beethoven felt deserving of his first opus number. It shows the assured young genius at play, in a work full of sparkle and charm. Vincent Plush borrows the theme of Beethoven’s Kakadu Variations, spinning it into a playful miniature tango, in this world premiere performance. The piano trio of fellow Australian composer Nigel Westlake is a favourite work of the Lyrebirds. Perhaps most widely known for his film soundtracks (including Babe), Westlake’s Piano Trio is filled with flowing lyrical gestures, and a virtuosic combination of rhythmic interplay and jazz-influenced melodies.
Tickets will be available at the door.
